Labor treason steering party to defeat

This election campaign is really one for the books. While underhanded, derogatory tactics and personal attacks are not new in Australian election campaigns they usually come from the opposition. For Labor though these are coming thick and fast – from within.

How would this effect the average voter?

Personally I have little love for Labor, Liberal or their respective leaders. The two major parties have been treating the Australian people with contempt for so long one cannot even remember a time when honesty, integrity and the public interest was at the heart of political decisions. All that matters is being in office – whatever the cost.

At election time my decision where my final preference will eventually flow to is based more on the conduct and past achievements than the leader or their promises. The two major parties have nothing to offer. They are merely puppets being played by vested financial interest motivated by greed and self-interest. I am not even sure if most of our political leaders’ even look down to see who it is they are stepping on.

The short record of Labor’s achievements hardly makes for inspiring reading. The multitude of policy failures and poor decisions cast doubts over the party’s ability to govern. Abhor Howard as I did there is no denying he got things done. Contrast this with Labor’s spin and failure.

The change of leadership looked to be a boon for Labor. With public opinion plummeting removing the leader was the only option. But the lift the party gained from this was short lived. Unfortunately the party’s undoing is much like Rudd’s – self-inflicted and possibly terminal.

The flow of information to media outlets from sources obviously within the Labor party should be of concern to both the party and to voters. There may very well be consensus and unity among the party en-masse, however, it is obvious that there is an internal movement to destabilise, even destroy the party and its credibility – as flimsy as that credibility is.

This does not inspire confidence.

If Gillard and the Labor power brokers are not worried they should be. These leaks are as close to treason as possible. The architect of these leaks is calculating and malicious. From a position of strength the Government is being manoeuvred to defeat. And, as much as the Liberal platform is far from my own ideologies Tony Abbott is starting to look the better option. There is clear danger for the Government.

Like many the direction of my vote is undecided but the pendulum is swinging in the Oppositions favour. Labor needs to take charge of its agenda and control its minions if they wish to retain government. Right now they are struggling.
