Will The Real Kevin Rudd Please Stand Up

April 27th 2010 01:09
Category: No Category
It is taking time but slowly, and surely, the real Kevin Rudd is emerging from behind the public mask he so convincingly wears. But the veil is wearing thin and the public is starting to see the charade for what it really is. Rudd’s rise, so rapid and almost unquestioned, could never be the birth of the messiah it was labelled as. From those watching carefully it is becoming apparent that it could be closely likened to Latham: looks good at first but the true character is disturbing and down right scary.
From the beginning the rise of Rudd seemed all too good to be true. The reality has taken a little longer and is still not complete. Yet the sense that all is not right grows stronger the more one hears from insiders, staffers, media reports, innocent bystanders to Rudd’s rage and Labor true believers. Rudd is the true politician: a graduate of the ‘Sir Humphrey Appleby’ school of politics. Devious, cunning and deceitful his attitude to work and politics leaves much to be desired.

That so many leave the employ of what is one of the pinnacles of political office is testament to the reality of Rudd. With the mantle of 24/7 Kevin the push, push, push work practice of the PM are a far cry from the work/ life balance dogma growing throughout society. More and more people are learning that work is not everything and family is more important. It cannot be any surprise that people are shifting to environment more conducive to family friendly hours and practices. Combine this with the allegations of Rudd’s expletive laden verbal tirades and short temper the move out of the top office is altogether unsurprising.
Then there is the total lack of political accomplishment to complement this dark persona of Rudd. So far there are far more failures to Kevin’s name than successes. In fact it is a struggle to find any notable successes in Rudd’s record. The only thing that can be claimed as a partial victory is the lack of impact the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) had on Australia as a whole. Although, Rudd’s part is this is questionable and the massive debt Labor has burdened the Australian people with to avert this potential impact makes the victory somewhat hollow.

With an election due toward the end of this year the Rudd Government needs to give the electorate something more than the spin doctoring that has, so far, been the only thing of note they [the public] have seen from Federal Labor. Even this has lost some of its appeal. The voters will sooner or later cotton on to the fact that there is no substance behind the spin. Rudd the illusionist is rapidly descending from the clouds to a very hard landing. The time for spin is over. Either Rudd starts to come up with some effective policy or the voters may have to look elsewhere to fill the lack of leadership being seen from Labor.
